HPQ: New Stackable Switches from ProCurve Provide Businesses with Reliable, Cost-effective Performance

ProCurve Networking by HP today expanded its Layer 2 stackable Ethernet product line with the introduction of three series of switches that offer high reliability and cost-effective performance.

Designed for companies of all sizes, the ProCurve Switch 2810 Series, 1800 Series and the 2510-24 switches are easy to set up, use and maintain. The switches include features such as fan-less or reduced noise operation, an intuitive web-based user interface and a smaller size for efficient deployment.

“These new Layer 2 stackable Ethernet switches combine excellent performance with ProCurve’s hallmark quality and reliability at an affordable price that adds up to industry-leading value,” said John McHugh, vice president and general manager, ProCurve Networking by HP.

Like all ProCurve products, the new switches are based on industry standards for superior interoperability in multi-vendor network environments. They come standard with ProCurve’s industry-leading lifetime warranty, which features next-day replacement, free telephone and email support, and free software updates for as long as the customer owns the product.

“ProCurve sets the standard for high-performance 10/100/1000 switches that offer reliable and secure networking solutions, that are easy to integrate and use,” said Rolf Schmidhuber, Columbus data management system technology team leader for EADS ST, which is responsible for the development of the International Space Station’s European Columbus module.

“Operating in an incredibly demanding environment some 400 kilometers above the Earth, the Columbus module must be able to conduct its complex research and experiments using network switches we completely trust,” added Schmidhuber. “Based on our current levels of satisfaction and confidence in ProCurve products, we will evaluate all of the new switches at such a time that it is necessary.”

Said Katie Trippet, industry analyst at the Synergy Research Group: “ProCurve is successfully targeting the networking needs of the small, medium and large customer. With this new set of switches and affordable, standards-based technology, ProCurve is well-positioned for ongoing growth in the LAN switching marketplace. Synergy is optimistic about the demand for stackable switches and is forecasting Fixed Gigabit Layer 2 switch revenues to grow to $1.95 billion in 2009.”

ProCurve Switch 2810 Series

Available in popular 24- and 48-port stackable configurations, the ProCurve Switch 2810 Series is a Layer 2 Gigabit managed switch offering high-performance and secure 10/100/1000 connectivity, even in smaller wiring closets. With its quiet operation and small form factor, the 2810 Series is effective for businesses requiring advanced traffic prioritization, flexibility in user authentication or extensive traffic-monitoring capabilities in their networks. In addition, the 2810 works optimally in bandwidth-hungry applications such as graphical data, video streams, large database activity and data storage.

ProCurve Switch 1800 Series

The web-managed ProCurve Switch 1800 Series enables affordable, out-of-the-box Gigabit connectivity with fundamental management and configuration capabilities. The 1800 Series features a simple and intuitive web interface, making it particularly useful for businesses that do not have a large IT staff or advanced network management requirements.

The 1800 Series comes in two models. The Switch 1800-8G is a small, fan-less desktop switch ideal for connecting small work groups or for extending network connectivity into conference rooms or classrooms. The Switch 1800-24G is suited for environments that require larger port density, with two optional Gigabit fiber uplinks for connecting to a core or distribution switch.

ProCurve Switch 2510-24

The ProCurve Switch 2510-24 is a 24-port 10/100 managed Ethernet switch that combines Layer 2 switching with easy installation and exceptional reliability. The 2510-24 is small enough to be used in a wiring closet or as a desktop switch. It has no fan, providing noiseless operation for installation in open spaces or public areas. With two built-in dual personality ports, the product offers two 10/100/1000 ports for server connectivity or stacking and two optional Gigabit Mini-GBIC slots for fiber connectivity for longer distance uplinks.
