BEA Systems, a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, today announced that BEA WebLogic Server® 9.2 (WLS) has once again broken its own performance record on the industry-standard SPECjAppServer2004 benchmark test; this time running on a Sun Microsystems Sun Blade 8000 Modular System . BEA WebLogic Server also continues to maintain its benchmark performance lead in the 4-socket and 2-socket categories running on HP Integrity servers.
BEA WebLogic Server is designed to require fewer CPUs than any other application server at a given workload, as illustrated by the SPEC benchmark. This can ultimately reduce licensing costs for businesses, increase productivity and lower the over all total cost of ownership (TCO) for customers.
“In the last 15 months, BEA WebLogic server has continued to dominate on the SPECjAppServer 2004 performance benchmark, and certainly longer than any other vendor,” said Wai Wong, executive vice president, products, BEA Systems. “This speaks volumes as to BEA’s industry leadership and commitment to technological excellence especially given the fact that some of our nearest competitors have not appeared on this list once during this time.”
The SPECjAppServer2004 benchmark was developed by the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC) (www.spec.org), an independent organization founded in 1988 whose members include leading hardware manufacturers, software vendors, and academic institutions.
Today’s news arrives on the heels of a recent Evans Data Group report that declared WebLogic Server the number one application server. For the report, titled “Professionals Choice: Application Servers 2006 User Ranking,” the editors interviewed more than 700 developers around the world and asked them to rate the top ones based on a number of pre-selected categories. Out of the 10 application servers that were evaluated, WebLogic server ranked number one, ahead of IBM Websphere, Oracle Application Server and RedHat/JBoss.
In addition to developers voting BEA WebLogic Server the number one application server, Gartner’s most recent Market Share AIM worldwide 2005 report ranks WebLogic Server number one in market share, with a 33.8 percent market share rating, compared to Oracle at just 2.5 percent. In the last year alone, BEA WebLogic Server sales grew faster than industry analysts projected the market to be growing. (For more information on the report, please see related press release titled BEA Systems Seizes Top Spot in Application Severs Based on Total Software Revenue in 2005, June 20, 2006.) Gartner also placed the software at the top of its Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Application Servers (*EAS) 2Q 06.
BEA WebLogic Server is a key component of the BEA SOA 360º platform, which is designed to deliver the industry’s most unified SOA platform and spans all three of BEA’s product families, AquaLogic, WebLogic, Tuxedo and the company’s newest product initiative, BEA Workspace 360º. (See Sept. 19, 2006 press release titled “BEA Announces SOA 360º; Industry’s Most Unified SOA Platform to Transform and Optimize Business.”)
