VZ: Gov. Schwarzenegger Appoints Verizon Region President to Broadband Task Force

Verizon West Region President Tim McCallion will serve on Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's recently created Broadband Task Force.

Schwarzenegger created the panel in October to identify opportunities for increased broadband adoption and enable the creation and deployment of new advanced communication technologies. McCallion, who was named to the panel Thursday by Schwarzenegger, brings more than 30 years' experience in the telecommunications industry to the role, including his leadership experience at one of the country's most innovative telecom companies.

"Verizon has a track record of building infrastructure that stimulates the economy and delivers exciting new products to consumers," McCallion said. "Verizon is the only company in the nation deploying fiber to the customer on a widespread scale and was the first to offer a wireless broadband network. We share Gov. Schwarzenegger's commitment to increasing broadband access, and I look forward to furthering that objective as a member of the task force."

McCallion joined Verizon in 1976 and held a variety of management positions in California, Hawaii, Indiana, Connecticut, Ohio and Pennsylvania before being named west region president in 2000. He serves on the board of directors for the Ventura County Community Foundation, Los Angeles Urban League, California Foundation on the Environment and the Economy, Central City Association of Los Angeles, California Chamber of Commerce and the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce. He also serves on the Southern California Leadership Council and the board of governors of the Children's Museum of Los Angeles.
