IBM (NYSE: IBM) today is announcing initiatives and solutions focused on addressing telecoms operators' pressing needs to build a solid, secure, cost-effective infrastructure to roll-out next-generation services.
The new IBM solutions launched today will help telcos to compete more effectively in a marketplace characterized by declining voice revenues and high consumer demand for rich content and services. The new IBM hardware, software and services solutions build on IBM's major investments in its telecoms solutions labs and software acquisitions. These investments improve service creation and delivery capabilities for telcos, enabling them to better integrate and reduce system complexity and cost.
"Telcos are struggling to meet customer demand for rich content via any device over any network," said Mike Hill, General Manager, Global Telecommunications Industry, IBM. "To compete and win, telcos need to transform their operating and infrastructure systems to support the convergence of telecoms and media, and the multi-media rich content that customers are demanding."
IBM telecom solutions announced today, include:
Telecom Core Infrastructure Security Solution which provides telecoms operators with an integrated system for monitoring and managing network health and real-time traffic on demand, ensuring secure networks for delivering greater content and services to enterprise clients.
BladeCenter HT "hardened" blade server system that meets international telecommunications standards. The powerful new BladeCenter HT platform, featuring dual and quad-core Intel Xeon, AMD Opteron and IBM Power processor-based blades, delivers superior performance and high-speed connectivity for network bandwidth 10 times greater than previously possible.
Enhancements to Netcool/Precision and Netcool/Proviso to enable performance management and availability management for Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) networks. MPLS enables Quality of Service, bringing high-priority handling for voice and other traffic types while reducing network costs by consolidating network traffic.
Available from IBM and its partners, IBM's new solutions and services for telcos build on IBM's heritage in helping enterprises transform their operational systems and infrastructure to meet evolving market requirements.
At stand #5002 in the ITU Telecom Village, IBM will feature demonstrations of its latest telecom offerings including:
Triple Play with IPTV which shows how consumers can dynamically choose TV shows, movies and even games from their IPTV service provider.
Presence/IMS Based Services which include presence-driven workforce discovery and task distribution; location-based call routing and etiquette enforcement; and abstraction and learning of rich presence information.
Telecom Services in a Web 2.0. World which help telcos expand service offerings and revenue opportunities by delivering extended network capabilities via Telecom Web Services.
Order to Cash Transformation Solution which addresses the end-to-end processes and IT infrastructure supporting order entry provisioning, activation, billing and collection.
