HP Retakes No. 1 Position in Total Disk Storage Systems

HP has reclaimed the No. 1 position in worldwide total disk storage systems revenue from IBM, with 20.1 percent market share, according to market data for the first calendar quarter of 2007 released today by IDC.(1)

HP additionally held the No. 1 position in several other categories including the open storage area network (SAN) market, which includes fibre channel and iSCSI, where HP was the leader in open SAN shipments with 14.6 percent share worldwide.(2) In the internal disk storage systems category, HP owned the top position, with 35.8 percent revenue share.

The HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) family increased its external disk array revenue share in the midrange segment.(3) HP also grew year-over-year revenue faster than the two closest competitors in worldwide total disk storage, helped by market share gains in product lines such as the HP StorageWorks XP disk arrays and HP All-in-One Storage Systems.(4)

HP was tied for the No. 1 spot in units shipped in the worldwide network-attached storage market.

“The latest IDC results show that HP is competing aggressively in the storage market and growing share against key competitors,” said Duncan Campbell, vice president of marketing, StorageWorks Division, HP. “Our flagship EVA product family continues to enjoy widespread acceptance, and you’ll see HP deliver more storage innovation to help customers mitigate risks, lower costs and grow their businesses.”
